I consider myself to be a contemporary impressionist painter. One of my favorite studios is the great outdoors. I specialize in plein air landscape painting as well as still life paintings from set ups at my home studio in Arlington, VA. My artistic journey has taken me on several paths. Early, I was interested in craft/sculpture and working with tools. I took a break from creative pursuits to follow a career outside of art as well as for child rearing. For the past ten or more years I have become obsessed with oil painting. Painting guides me in looking at the world with intention. One path that has been especially rewarding for me is to paint small and often. I initially painted daily and then wrote about the process on a blog. I have since abandoned the blog (after almost two years) and now have become more flexible in my painting practice. I sometimes paint abstracts in acrylic, have loved my involvement with encaustics but always return to my true calling - small intimate oil paintings. I am inspired by many things, a flower, sun on an old pick up truck, bright red bell peppers or hills on a foggy day. I am a member and former board member of both The Art League and the Arlington Artists Alliance. My work can be seen at several venues through the region, in private collections and at www.dtaylorstudio.com.
